It's soooooooooooooooooooo confusing trying to improve at running. What to do for best? Went out yesterday for a quick 2km; I have a standard loop that takes around 12 minutes (yes, I know that's slow) and did it today in under 11m30 ! What's going on? I had warmed up a bit more than usual, it'd been over 3 hours since eating, I was breathing deeper and more evenly, and (this is my favourite) I tried to run in intervals so instead of running hard throughout I'd run really hard for a minute and then slack off a bit until recovered. Theory is this'll help my body deal with lactic acid build-up. We'll see - I've had unsustainable performance blips before - down and up :)
The proof of the pudding will be consistency and repeatability I know, so I'll try to use technology now - setting my "wrist-top computer" (TM) to beep at time intervals and/or heart rate bands to tell me when to go faster and slower. I'll report back on this if I remember.
