Hello world!

Can Wotler go the distance???

So following on from recent "successes", i.e. having completed (albeit with successive yearly PBs), the annual Southam Triathlon, it's time to move onward and upward. The Southam Tri is a sprint event with a shorter indoor swim of 400m. The swim was 750 m in the first year but as the event has grown the pool isn't available for the time needed so the length has dropped to 400m. That's a poor excuse to say that I was once capable of a 750m/20km/5km sprint event.

So looking for the next challenge I figured a full Olympic tri would be do-able and then started to look bigger. I was disappointed to see the 70.3 series of events refer to a mile distance not a kilometre distance so thought maybe a 70.3 km event would be "interesting" in that it would be a good training / personal target / fitness challenge to try and finish such a distance. Note no pretence at gaining a competitive time.

And thus it begins ......... Luckily for me I have a teenage son who nags, sorry motivates, me to train and I suspect he's going to be the lynch pin on the rocky road to success. Current injury catalogue shows the remnants of a pulled calf muscle and a dodgy knee so running's out of the question at the moment - so we're majoring on bikes and swims. Enuf for now.
